Spotlight: Amy Gross
Fiber Sculptures Extraordinaire
Amy Gross’ work is inspired by nature, but not made from nature. This talented artist has found ways to take ordinary, store bought products and literally transform them into some of the most unique and appealing mixed media art out there.
Amy, who lives in Florida, is a relative of the founder of Emanio Creative. Of course when she needed a website to showcase her art she came to us. Together we worked on her site to create a design with her art as the central focus. “We wanted to help her art stand out through the use of a pure background, simple text and clean lines” said Evan Gross, the designer of her site.
Amy started as a successful textile designer in New York, but felt the “germ of her passion” come alive while in Florida. “The nature in Florida was so extreme, I felt inspired and compelled to want to recreate it myself…” and hence the beauty begins.
Man made mushrooms, moss, shells, leaves, flora, butterflies, honey combs are some of media she uses to sculpt her “fake nature” as she puts it. “My nature never dies as time passes” Amy said, “The artificial materials stop time.”
Surrounded by her fibers, art and materials, this creative woman stays inspired . According to Amy “I’m never frustrated over going to work – everyday I get to do something that fires me up!” You’ll find her at galleries and shows around the country including Boca Museum of Art, Watson McRae Gallery – Sanibel, Blue Spiral – Ashville, NC, and many more. Amy’s website is www.amygross.com where you can see her art, read about her successes and learn more.
